An exhibition of Contemporary Cuban art posters direct from Havana.
HOSTED BY AMALGAM
Motivated by this new era for US- Cuba relations, we present ¡OYE CUBA! This project seeks to make Cuban graphic design more visible. The artists combine design, painting, printmaking, literature and photography with a sense of humor, irony and innovative spirit that is only found in Cuba. The exhibition was curated in collaboration with A. David Guerra.
The minimalist installation, commissioned by architect, Elliot Olson, was inspired by the lavandería, mimicing the clothing lines that are commonly seen atop rooftops and draped across balconies and courtyards.
¡OYE Opening Night!
Rum drinks inspired by Ernest Hemingway’s spirit of adventure were served by Papa’s Pilar to the beat of Manu Miranda’s DJ set of eclectic sounds that ranged from Afro-Cuban to Latin Jazz that incorporated sounds from the streets of Havana. Special thanks to the participating artists and Amanda Accardi, owner of Around the Corner Framing for donating custom frames.
